Okay, I know, I know, NOTHING can really naturally induce labor... Baby will just come when he's good and ready! Believe me, I know, I've tried! With Anna, we walked laps around the mall, ate spicy foods, took castor oil, road down the bumpiest roads we could find, had lots of "intimate" time, and... NOTHING. But, once you get to this point in pregnancy, labor is literally all you think about. When will it happen? Will it come early? How will it feel? When should I go to the hospital? And this is coming from a second-time mama!
Anyways, though they may not make you go into labor, we're PREGNANT, and they're COOKIES! Can't hurt, right?
"Labor-Inducing" Cookies
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or less)
- 8 tablespoons (1 stick) margarine or butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (will also need some extra sugar to roll the cookie dough in)
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 2 egg whites
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt, and cayenne pepper in small mixing bowl. Set dry ingredient mixture aside.
- Blend margarine or butter in a large mixing bowl. Stir in brown sugar and granulated sugar slowly. Add the molasses, and then the egg whites. Finally, add the dry ingredients.
- Roll dough into 3/4 inch balls. Roll balls in sugar until lightly coated. Place balls on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in oven for 8-10 minutes, or until cookies are golden brown.
Ginger IS said to be a labor inducer, as well as spicy foods, and here's one woman's testament on these particular cookies. Personally, I believe them all to be wives tales, but here's hoping! Let me know if any of you ladies are blessed enough to go into labor with this recipe!
